Materials
Requires face stock and ribbon
Advantages
- Different face stock & ribbon combinations provide scratch, smudge and chemical resistance
- Less expensive material than direct thermal
- All material is scanable in both visible and infrared light
- Many face stock choices
- Longer shelf life
Disadvantages
- Less efficient with a need to change ribbons
- Ribbon lengths don’t always match label roll lengths causing more downtime
